Member Spotlight: Carol Watson

Studio Name: Carol Watson Art Glass
Website: www.carolwatsonartglass.com
Years Lampworking: 6 years
Type of Glass: Lampwork

I grew up in NW Indiana (Munster) and moved to Indianapolis in 1980. My two sons are all grown up and have flown the nest ! I live in Zionsville with my wonderful mutt Guinness, and all of the other lovely critters that gather in my woods. I've been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 29 years, but dream of being a full time Artist/Instructor. Give me 10 years, and check back in with me!

Carol's hobbies: Gosh ! All seem to be jewelry related. Along with lampwork, I also love working with copper and silver etching, silver fusing and most recently resin. I'm co-owner of an Etsy business called Cahootz (www.cahootz.biz), with the best biz partner I could ever ask for, fellow Islaga-er Robin Koza. To have a job that is also your passion is something that most people don't ever experience. I can't quite quit that day job, but someday........

How she got into glass? I started with Stained Glass 25 years ago and that led to dabbling in mosaics, fusing and finally Lampworking.

Favorite Glass Quote: Practice, practice, practice....it's so true !

What Carol loves about glass: I love the unpredictability of the reactions and the movement. I love that no matter how hard you try there is absolutely no way to get the exact same result. They might be similar, but not the same. The recent addition of silver glasses in lampworking has taken my beads in a different, but interesting direction.

Where she sells her glass? I do local art shows with a fellow Islaga member, Cathy Brown.
